If you are arriving by train, turn left when you leave Hove station. Follow the road around until you come to the junction of Denmark Villas and Cromwell Road on your left. Turn into Cromwell Road—Eaton Gardens is the first turning on the right. Vanbrugh Court is about half way down on your right.
If you are arriving by bike, there is a dedicated cycle path on The Drive that runs from the sea-front right up to the South Downs. Turn off The Drive at either Blatchington or Cromwell Road. Although there are no cycle racks at Vanbrugh Court you can lock your bike against the lampposts in Eaton Gardens or ask your resident friend if you can temporarily store your bike in the basement storage area.
If you are arriving by car, follow the signs to Hove and the County Cricket ground, which is well sign-posted when entering from the sea-front or from the A27 bypass in the north. If you are driving towards Brighton from the London direction (M23/A23), don't drive all the way into Brighton because you'll get snarled up. Instead, turn off the A23 onto the A27 Brighton bypass (follow directions to Hove and Worthing). Note that although you want to go west, you turn left off the large roundabout just below the flyover, then turn left again at the next mini-roundabout to get onto the bypass.
Exit the A27 at the Devil's Dyke turnoff, at the top of the hill, and take the main road (Dyke Road) towards Brighton and Hove. If you are exiting the bypass from the east (London), this is the second exit off the roundabout; if you are exiting the bypass from the west (Worthing), firstly turn right at the mini-roundabout then carry straight on (again, second exit) at the main one.
Don't follow Dyke Road all the way into Brighton—you need to turn right towards Hove. The best place to do this is at the first major traffic lights, at the junction with the Upper Drive (which later crosses the Old Shoreham Road to link with The Drive). If you miss this turning, carry on straight through the next set of lights (junction with Old Shoreham Road, where you can't turn right) and take the last exit off the Seven Dials roundabout into Davigdor Road.
Eaton Gardens is one block west of The Drive, which is a major north-south artery between the sea-front and the A270 (Old Shoreham Road). The road has a Residential Parking scheme but visitors can purchase tickets from the roadside machines. The wardens are seemingly omnipresent and vigilant so make sure you park legally, even to the point of observing the petty instructions printed on the reverse of the ticket, such as displaying the ticket on the pavement-side of your car where the wardens can see it easily (believe it or not, you can also get a fine for not displaying your ticket correctly).
